Wild Buffalo & Robe Unfold is the brainchild of Mario Matos. After many years working on the frontlines of the fashion retail industry, Mario finally had the guts to try a different approach. He took a gamble, crafting a brand that would stand alone amidst an overcrowded market. His ludicrous dream would not have become a reality without the endless support of his many creative, talented friends.

The result? A brand that is vibrant and wild at its core, with garments for those who are unafraid to express themselves; those who long for freedom.

At the heart of Wild Buffalo & Robe Unfold is creative collaboration. We work directly with artists, licencing their artwork and bringing their designs to life on our garments. Each line of clothing is therefore the intimate, creative expression of an artist. By working collaboratively, our creative process not only empowers individual artists, but ensures that our designs are original and personal.

Ecologically Conscious

The name Wild Buffalo & Robe Unfold is inspired by the chief of a Native American tribe, Amahami. According to tribal history, the Amahami have long lived along the upper Missouri River. They were a peaceful tribe who dedicated their time caring for the land, living in harmony with each-other and the Earth. The Amahami Chief was called Tatuckcoprinreha, which translates to White Buffalo Robe Unfolded.

After reading this, Mario felt a connection with the Amahami. Tatuckcoprinreha lingered in his mind, and as the brand started to take shape, the name Wild Buffalo & Robe Unfold manifested itself.

Wild Buffalo & Robe Unfold envisions a world of authentic, quality fashion, human expression and planetary harmony. Reconnecting with ourselves means reconnecting with the Earth, and, as the Amahami cared for their land, we too need to care for ours. This means stepping away from cheap, ‘fast fashion’, and paying attention to the ecological footprint of our garments.

Our garments are made from organic Peace Silk, which allows silkworms to metamorphosize as butterflies and break through the cocoon walls, before the cocoons are harvested. Unlike normal silk, whereby the cocoon is harvested before metamorphosis, this ethical approach respects the natural lifecycle of the silkworm and means no animal has to suffer or die for the production of fabric. This timely, more sustainable approach makes the silk expensive, but by spending more on your clothing, you are making a conscious decision to care for the planet.

The silkworms are fed on leaves harvested from organically-grown Mulberry trees, with no manufactured feeds or chemicals used to raise the worms, meaning the silk is 100% organic. Find out more about our silk manufacturers here.
